There has been TONS of Pokémon fanart in the community since it began, and some of my recent favorites include my favorite starter Pokemon Bulbasaur!
Who else started their adventure with this cute little grass type monster? Mine was named Romaine after the lettuce.
According to Bulbapedia (community encyclopedia for Pokémon), this little creature has many names depending on the language you played the games in.From the Japanese Fushigidane to German Bisasam, this little beast is full of poison and grass type powers.
It is said that a young Bulbasaur uses the nutrients from its seed for the energy it needs to grow. The plant sprouts and grows with this Pokémon and the bulb on its back will begin to glow if it is ready to evolve. Pokémon researchers are unsure whether to classify Bulbasaur as a plant or animal. In the official PokéDex, it is listed as the very first Pokemon.
As of recent, many artists that I follow online have come up with their own versions of this cute beast and I wanted to share a few while I come up with my own design.
Mine started out as a little baby cactus in the dessert, using up the bulb for both energy and hydration. They are still a poison and grass type, with an interest in hanging out tending to graveyards and making sure the flowers are taken care of. They love to celebrate Dia de Muerto with their trainers and love helping hanging the marigolds!
This is a quick little sketch done in mechanical pencil and lined using Prismacolor Fine Liner markers.
I’ll be scanning this sketch to use as a reference for an upcoming digital piece. Stay tuned!
